Mindfulness

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing your awareness on the present moment. It is a method of accepting what is, feeling it, and letting it pass without judgment.

Mindfulness has received a lot of attention in recent years because research has shown it effective in treating depression and anxiety. I teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction to clients interested in learning more and reducing their symptoms.

“Mindfulness is about coming home to this very moment.”

– Grace Fisher

Everybody has it, but…

We all naturally possess mindfulness.

But it’s more readily available to you when you practice. Just like learning to play a sport or learning a language, you need to practice to improve your technique. The same is true with mindfulness.

When we work together, we’ll discuss habits and how to build a practice into your daily life. We’ll practice different forms of mindfulness: 1) mindfulness meditation and 2) mindfulness in daily life.

Some people really struggle with meditating and think that meditation means stopping your thoughts. In fact, meditation is a time to quiet the mind and allow thoughts to pass like clouds in the sky. It is a form of self-care, but it is not for everyone.

Another form is mindfulness in daily life. You don’t want to run through life so fast that you miss what’s happening right in front of you. Life is not a race – but a journey.

Take the time to smell the roses, enjoy a view, be at peace at home when you have some quiet time.

Make that journey. Come home. Find yourself in the moment.

When we work together, we’ll strive to discover what it is that brings you joy. We’ll work to cultivate more joy in your life; often, they don’t have to be big things.
